University Community Center

As a first step towards engaging the Tali community in the process of building African university there, African University Foundation plans to locate the University Community Center on the future campus of African University within tropical Tali. This Center will constitute a multipurpose living, learning and work space where local residents will begin their development of a workable educational model which will involve them in the sustainable development of their community and the new university in ways that develop local and regional economic potential. It will engage the local people in a new process of goal-oriented learning, service, leadership and applied research. Beginning by meeting to share their fears, concerns, and hopes, residents in the Tali community area, including the 58 surrounding villages of the Upper Banyang subdivision of Manyu Division of the Southwest province of Cameroon, will build collaborative partnerships with the University Community Center.

Mission

The University Community Center in Tali, Cameroon will involve residents in learning to develop skills and processes by which they can enhance their abilities to become self-actualizing, self-supporting economic and cultural developers and contributors while becoming integral participants in the development of African University as a potential catalyst for sustainable community development.

Objectives

The mission of the University Community Center will be accomplished through:

  1. Facilitating educational processes and curriculum that immerse students in the envisioning and implementing of new economic development approaches that bring economic prosperity to the local region, builds self-actualizing people, enhances community health, empowers local communities and strengthen culture.
  2. Facilitating the development and extension of cultural, recreational and educational opportunities to local residents;
  3. Helping to enable residents to create community service projects focused on meeting their own needs;
  4. Promote collaborative partnerships with residents and their organizations;
  5. Creating opportunities to encourage, facilitate, support and enhance participation by residents in the daily life and events of the Tali community area.
  6. Catalyzing the Tali area community to develop solutions to its common problems through the facilitation and design of applied research projects.
