We seek support to realize phase one of African University in order to foster transformations in learning, teaching, innovation, culture and wellbeing throughout the Tali community area in Cameroon. Distilling strategic priorities and making a public case for the importance of the work of the new institution of higher learning in Cameroon requires a comprehensive campaign. Launching a new international university is ambitious and challenging. We are seeking to building African University in a turbulent global economic context. African University is designed to help solve the problems that confront African societies through its intellectual resources and collaborations. Solutions coming from African University in domains such as agriculture, health and business will play a critical role in overcoming pressing challenges of our time. We provide a unique opportunity to take significant steps toward realizing phase one of African University. We will be a able to bring talented faculty and students to execute our vision for integrity, creativity and excellence with a mandate for scholarship and leadership. We will realize African University's mission to ensure that deserving students have acquire an integrated experiential education and develop talents and transform to become leaders of society. Accountability

We will use the following as guidelines to count private support for this initiative: First, Funds counted include unrestricted and restricted public and private support and pledges made directly to the African University Foundation. Second, planned gifts such as bequests that are realized at a future date are not counted in the total.

Integrated Community Center
toward phase 1

As a first step towards launching academic programs and engaging the local community, an Integrated Community Center (ICC) will be located on the future campus of African University in Tali, Cameroon. African University embodies a vision for integrity, creativity and excellence with a mandate for scholarship and leadership. The new university will ensure the opportunity for deserving students in Africa and abroad to gain an integrated experiential education, develop their talents and transform to become leaders of society. Phase One of African University expected to cover a period of ten years will be embodied in an Integrated Community Center. On December 8, 2010, the master plan for African University and renderings for the African University Integrated Community Center were unveiled in Tali, Cameroon. The ICC will be a complex of efficiently placed buildings and external structures to minimize environmental impact, optimize human interactions and enhance community spirit. The approximately 149,500 square feet Integrated Community Center will include three buildings and external structures.

The first building will be approximately 26,300 square feet with space for institutional, community and learning. Phase I academic programs are expected to include 9 programs for 540 students in agribusiness, engineering, architecture, nursing and law operated within a University College, The second building will be approximately 80,300 square feet with space for student living and learning communities. Ten students will participate in each learning and living community within the student lodging facility. The third building will be approximately 42,800 square feet with space for faculty, staff and visitor living. Ten visitors will be able to visit and lodge at African University at a given time.

Schmidt Associates is the architectural firm designing of the African University Integrated Community Center. Schmidt Associates, a premier and highly experienced 100-employee architectural-engineering firm has designed all manner of projects and handled an array of challenges. Local Cameroonian architectural and constructions firms will supervise and build the Integrated Community Center.

In December 2010, four Schmidt Associates architects including Wayne Schmidt, CEO, Sarah Hempstead, Sarah Hempstead, who runs Schmidt Associates' university studio; Corrie Meyer, an urban planner; and Martin Sams visited the site in Tali, Cameroon. They were accompanied by three board members of African University Foundation including Agbor-Baiyee, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and an academic administrator at Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis attorney David Williams Russell of Harrison and Moberly, the foundation's vice chairman, and Cathy Davis, the foundation's treasurer and staff accountant at the Central Indiana Community Foundation. African University Foundation, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit organization with a branch office in Cameroon is dedicated to facilitating and serving the development of African University in Tali, Cameroon.

It is the right time to prepare a new generation of leaders in Africa via the successful launch of African University, Tali, Cameroon. African University is a new choice in African higher education which can contribute in a significant manner to the transformation of lives and society for the better.
